Synopsis This book is an exploration and interpretation of the principal beliefs and values of a culture which blossomed in the Indian peninsula over the past several millennia. Indian culture is primarily secular in character and is the commonwealth of all the religions of the world. Viewpoint on life in this cultural environment is that observance of Dharma is the essence of life and all life is one. Our world is unipolar and is converging more towards globalization, industrialization, urbanization and increased impact of media. Status of countries depended in the past firstly on weapons and military strength. Thereafter, emphasis shifted on weapons power as also on economic strength and trade. The trend for the future seems to be the use of culture and values as a means of controlling the minds of the people of the world. This is a different kind of scenario which is building up gradually. We need to enlighten the youth of India with the precious heritage of thoughts and values of ancient Indians so that they can develop an ‘out of the box thinking’ and can think laterally in a scientific and spiritual way. Blending of the best of the ideas from the East and the West is also done to prepare a new breed of mangers who can think positively and live their life consciously and responsibly. Theme of the book seeks to change the mindset of the reader. Our failure in this vital area of imparting education in values and spirituality is fraught with dangerous consequences such as collapse of democracy, spectre of terrorism, destruction of natural environment, or even thermonuclear destruction of the world. India is in an enviable position in that her economy is big, her cultural heritage is alive and her democratic institutions are vibrant. The need is to arrest the downward trend towards decadence. This explains the purpose and nature of the theme covered in the book.
