Corporate Social Responsibility: Contemporary Insights
Synopsis
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is coming of age in business practice, teaching, and research. But it is not a well-defined field of study with clear boundaries; rather it is a field of practice that comprises several intellectual agendas and lines of inquiry. CSR is of interest to diverse groups, who in turn have different priorities. These groups include businesspersons, academia, governing bodies, non-governmental organizations, the community, and the consumers, to name just a few. This latter aspect of differing priorities of separate groups brings with it the risk of one group’s interests dominating those of the others. Moreover, it is a field in which practice is ahead of theory. All these factors, combined together, pose a unique set of challenges for practice, research, and teaching indeed, one important point of debate is whether CSR can be treated as a field of academic study or a field or practice alone. This book includes a collection of papers on CSR to provide a holistic view of the emerging areas in this field. A review of thinking by experts in several fields is provided along with new conceptualizations of CSR based on recent business and non-business practices across the world. Overall, there is a call for an interweaving of seemingly disparate disciplines into a coherent whole towards a better and richer conceptualization of CSR. For those who wish to engage in a deeper and wider study of this subject, the book provides some useful and intellectually stimulating perspectives. This book will be useful for corporate managers, academic researchers, and business educators.
