Synopsis Library Science: Functions and Practices is an important area of study in modern library science. In this book the fundamentals of library science like definition, purpose, social concept, types, public, spend, academic has been introduced. Various policies and procedure related to library science are also appended in this book to make it more comprehensive in all manner. In Unit I, the basic functions, five laws, library extension services and different policies are included. In Unit II, various techniques of classification and isolates are included. Library classification is an important area of study and research. During the last fifty five years, tremendous developments have taken place in the theory and practice of library classification. These have been an important bearing on the efficiency of services to be provided by libraries, documentation centres and information centres. The developments have implications for a student of library classification as well as a practicing librarian. A dynamic theory of library classification has been formulated and highly national techniques have been evolved. These have made it possible to design a freely faceted analytico-synthetic scheme for classification, which is better fitted to face the slaught of the universe of subjects.
