Synopsis
A library catalogue is a register of all bibliographic items found in a library. A bibliographic item is a library material, a part of a library material, or a group of library materials, as far as it is relevant to the catalogue. Producing formal catalogues is relatively easy, as the cataloguer can follow a set of cataloguing rules. The application of computers to cataloguing and the adoption of shared cataloguing through bibliographic networks greatly transformed the cataloguing process.
