Synopsis
The Akali movement was born during 1920’s when Sikhs of all hues, creeds and castes decided to rid their Shrines of Mahants and government toadies. As the government resorted to a policy of suppression, the movement gathered political colour. Eventually, the Sikhs won the day and Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee came into being as a result of an Act passed by the Punjab Assembly. The Akali movement then began to symbolize the political, economic and social renaissance of the Sikhs, all rolled into one.The volume contains the historical account of the Akalis vis-à -vis SGPC from 1920 onwards.
