Synopsis
"Economics in Arthasastra" is an edited volume of about 20 articles dealing with the economic content of Arthasastra by Kautilya written more than two thousand years ago in India. This volume has been prepared with a specific objective o bring into limelight the fact that economics as a subject was evolved in India much earlier than the present western ideas on economic thinking. It will also explode the myth that quite a few western addicted persons feel that there is no proper economic content in Arthasastra. The book, in addition to an editorial overview of the contents, is divided into four parts. The first part is devoted into four parts. The first part is devocted to the "General Issues of Current Relevance" as 8 articles respectively by L.K. Jha, S.D. Chamola, Clem Tisdell, M.G. Basava Raja, M.R. Veerabhadraswamy, Lawson R. Smith and Felix Raj. The second part, dealing with "Business Management, Guilds and price Policy" consists of 5 articles authored by S.D. Chamola, S. Revathy, M.N. Joshi, rathul Mohanta and rattan Lal Basu. Two articles M.K. Sridhar and Lallan Prasad constitute the third part of this book which is devoted to "Foreign Trade and Globalisation". The Last part deals with "Public Finance, economic Justice and Market" and consists of another 5 articles authored respectively by P.R. Panchmukhi, C. Rajendran, Raj Kumar Sen, A .Khogendra Sharma Shatri and G.V. Joshi. It is expected that this book will rekindle the motivation of the researchers to look back to the wonder that was India in order to press forward for an India shining in the near future. Let economic wisdom of the past guide the route to the economy of the years to come.
