Synopsis Unemployment in India both in terms of magnitude and severity poses a formidable challenge. As per the result the 55th NSSO survey, the rate of employment on Current Daily Status (CDS) basis declined. In addition, the number of job seekers is increasing from one five Year Plan to the other Five Year Plan period. To overcome this menace, a Task Force on employment opportunities was set up by the Planning Commission, Government of India to suggest appropriate strategies to generate 100 million jobs in a decade. The TF advocated to the government to make efficient policies on education as well as skill development and, thus, upgrade the quality of the labour force and make them capable of supporting the process of creating high quality jobs for the unemployed youth.
