Synopsis
Reference and information services began in the late nineteenth century, largely in response to the growing prevalence of publicly funded libraries seeking to serve relatively inexperienced and unskilled readers and scholars. With increasing dependence on the library by readers and scholars, these services came to be function. Today, with a stronger instructional role, reference and information services are more proactive in providing a fully developed repertoire of services responsive to the multifaceted queries faced by librarians. The goal of the present book is to give the reader a through overview and a broader understanding of the possibilities of references and information services. It introduces the reader to the sophisticated and interesting aspects these services. This work is intended primarily to meet the requirements of the students of library and information science. It will also serve researchers, library professionals and users of library and information services.
