Studies in Contemporary Indian English Prose
Synopsis
Indian English prose has been successful in capturing the attention of writers of essays and reviews, of pamphlets and journals, of educational tracts and literacy critical pieces, of biographies and autobiographies, of short stories and novels. During the days of the Indian Renaissance (1820-1900), Indian English Prose received an unprecedented impetus, and various thinkers, educationists, journalists and reforms raised some burring issues of the day. The lead provided by raja Ram Mohan Roy was remarkably backed up by Ram Gopal Ghose, Keshab Chandra Sen, M.G. Ranade, B.G. Tilak, G.K. Gokhle, Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekanand, Sri Aurbindo, mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, S. Radhakrishnan, Raghunathan, Nirad C. Cahudhary, Ved Mehta and Many Others. The present critical anthology consists of some fourteen essays and papers written by thoughtful scholars. Some of the Literary luminaries mentioned above and their texts have been minutely examined in it. This critical anthology will, hopefully, prove useful to teachers, students and researchers alike.
