January 13, 1936, Sukkur Sindh (now in Pakistan), Educated at Punjab and Delhi University; Retired Reader in Sindhi, Deshbandhu (Evening) College, New Delhi 1973-2001; Visiting Post-doctoral Fellow, Harvard Center for the Study of World Religions (USA) 1979-80; Vice-Chairman, Sindhi Advisory Committee, Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India, 1985-87; Member Secretary, Sindhi Academy, Govt. of India; 1996-98; Life Member, Poetry Society of India, New Delhi, Harvard Club, Delhi; ex-Editor, Indian Author, Authors Guild of India. Published more than 55 books, including Sufis of Sindh (1986, 1996), of Grass and Roots, an indianist's Writings (1987) Alien Their is None (1991 poetry); visited several foreign countries, as a guest lecturer/contributor of learned papers on the Indological subjects. Honoured with awards-Delhi Hindi Academy Kriti Puraskar, 1988; UP Hindi Sansthan Sauhard Puraskar, 1990; Smt. Ishwari Bai Buxani Lifetime Achievement Award, 2002; Akhil Bharat Sindhi Boli Ain Sahitya Sabha, Jaipur's Literary Award, 2003; Padma Shri by President of India, 2003; Malhi Cultural Academy, Mumbai's Literary Award, 2004.
