Synopsis Printed words are trusted and held in high esteem. People refer to substantiate their claims to them. Invention of the printing machine accelerated the pace of mass communication. It still commands respect and attracts readers despite severe competition from glamorous electronic media. With increasing rural literacy, the scope of using written words has widened in the country. Orient media is playing a great role in communicating with farm people. The written word is helping to make advisory work with farm people more interesting. Various forms of print media viz., newspaper stories, magazine articles, leaflets, bulletins, circular letters, wall news papers and radio scripts are increasingly being written by extension staff. The written word is regarded as more authentic and can be put up for reading and referred as and when required. The written word has more power which convinces an motivate people. The Agricultural Universities, besides teaching and research functions have established Communication Centres with printing presses. Hence, it has now become a convention to use printed word for dissemination of agricultural information. Farm scientists are now a days regularly involved in publishing farm news, feature articles on farming matters, success stories of farmers and similar other aspects concerning farming in newspaper and farm magazines. The Communication centres and Farm Information Units are regularly publishing leaflets, bulletins, pamphlets, folders, posters and magazines in farm problems and their solutions. Writing for farmers has become a common activity in these days. The present book will be useful for extension workers is popularizing farm innovation an improving agricultural productivity and overall economic standard of farming community.
