Coins of Indian States (Part-A)
Synopsis
Amateur Numismatists avoid collection of States coins, primarily because they are difficult to decipher. One of the reason is that the legend of these coins is almost incomplete. To decipher a state coin, mint name and mint mark are necessary. In most of the state coins, the name of ruler is that of the Mughal king in Delhi and that information is not adequate to place the coin. Similar is the case of regnal year to mitigate this problem, effort has been in this book to compile and illustrate as many coins have been written below them. In the beginning, for each state, a brief description of its history of formation and also its location has been given. Greater details on these matters were not considered necessary for the objective of this book. Descriptive details and photographs of so many coins have resulted in expansion of the book. To keep the edition within the handling limits, this volume has been confined to states starting from `Alwar' alphabetical order and up to `Jaora'. The states from Jaisalmer onwards will be covered in the next volume which will be published not in very distant future.
