Ecology, Diversity and Conservation of Plants and Ecosystems in India

S.K. Barik (Editor) H.N. Pandey (Editor)
Synopsis The use of ecological principles in addressing the issues relating to conservation of plants and ecosystems is increasingly gaining ground among the planners, practitioners and scientists world-wide. Therefore, the ecological science today has become an integral part of conservation biology. In the changing world, where the diversity of plants and ecosystems are increasingly threatened, ecologists are playing a major role in providing scientific inputs in conservation efforts. Although a lot of ecological researchers have been carried out of India, there has not been any concerted effort of link research with conservation activities. Perhaps, this is due to lack of access to scientific information at the need of conservation planning. Therefore, there has been a need to compile and collate the research findings in these conservation. Ecology, Diversity and Conservation of Plants and Ecosystems in India is an attempt in this direction. The book has been able to synthesize plant and ecosystem of both natural and man-made ecosystems in the Indian subcontinent. The volume comprises 30 research papers covering such diverse aspects as diversity of microbes, higher plants and economically important plants, diversity of terrestrial ecosystems, and various factors impacting the conservation of plants and ecosystems. The book provides a glimpse of current research trends in biodiversity and should be an excellent reference volume for researchers, Policy planners and practitioners.
