Buddhism in India has made tremendous progress during the period under review (1947-1997). As against less than two lakh Buddhists. And to cater to the spiritual and religious needs of the ever-increasing Buddhist population, a large number of Buddha Viharas have come up in various parts of the country; the number of Bhikkhus has increased; and a good number of Buddhist societies and institutions are engaged in the preaching and preservation of the Dhamma. Hence, the future of Buddhism seems bright.
