Synopsis This book deals with the important subject of human rights. The author rightly points out that human rights have received recognition through universal instruments and national Constitutions. A critical examination of the situation in the world shows that the ideal of human rights is still very far off. Human inhumanity takes many forms and social injustice afflicts in various ways. In actual practice, the poor enjoy no social, economic and' political rights. The poor are being crushed. They have practically no rights. They live a life of constant frustration. The author has discussed the working of human rights in actual practice in many countries, including India. The author refers to the Defamation Bill introduced in the Indian Parliament but which had to be withdrawn on account of its condemnation from all quarters. The book critically examines the subject of human rights and offers suggestions for improving the existing conditions.
