The selection of authors has been made with the consideration of their erudition and standing in the field of music. The sotry of Indian music is largely the story of the different composers who have enriched it in diverse ways. As such the present volume portrays a cogent history of music in the context of the contributions of different composers who flourished from the 12th century down to the present day.

About the authors

G. Kuppuswamy

Dr. Mrs. Gowri Kuppuswamy is currently Professor and Head of the department of Vocal Music of Mysore University. She has several Research Publications and Papers to her credit. She has been research advisor and guide to several Ph.D. candidates of the Mysore University. In vocal music she has received training under Sangeeta Kalanidhi late G.N. Balasubramaniam, Sangeeta Kalanidhi Padmabhushan Dr. M.L. Vasanthakumari and Sri S Salyanaraman. She is also the Member of Board of studies and Examinations of several South Indian Universities. She has also widely traveled on Concert and Lecture assignments to U.S.S.R., Bulgaria, Hungary, Europe, U.S.A., Canada, U.K., France, Singapore and Malayasia.

M. Hariharan

Dr. M. Hariharan currently assistant Professor in Music at the College of Music affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University possesses a Doctorate degree and Master degree in Education from Nysore University. He was also associated in research projects at Tamil University, Tanjore, and Mysore University before coming over to the present institution. He has co-authored with Prof. Gowri Kuppuswamy in her books and papers Co-opted in three Research projects and has accompanied her in foreign tour assignments.
