Synopsis The book contains the collection of papers presented at the seminar on ‘Technology in Medieval India-16th 18th Century ‘held at Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, Calcutta September, 1984. In recent times there has been significant researches in the field of History of Sciences in India. Following the lead given by Prof. Irfan Habib, Aligarh Muslim University, researches have been undertaken by different scholars in the field of technology in medieval India. This seminar held in Calcutta, first of its kind in eastern India, attempted to bring together the researches undertaken so far. In this Proceeding’s Volume Prof. Habib has discussed the potential of general development of technology in medieval India. Others have attempted to show that there were certain kinds of development in the field of metallurgy, textile, firearms, agriculture etc. The literary texts have been supplemented by the reproduction from contemporary miniature paintings.
