Theories and Approaches to International Relations
Synopsis
The present work incorporates all the major theoretical approaches and theories of International Relations since the beginning of this discipline in 1919 to the post-cold war period. Though the work does not lay any claim to propounding any new theory yet it endeavours to put a host of theories and paradigm of International Relations in compact, analytical and readable form in one volume. In order to bring home the crux and core of different theories contributors have heavily relied on the original texts and liberally quoted from them. There is no dearth of books on practical topics or International Relations practice covering period between the two World Wars and period after the World War II. However, books on theoretical aspects of international relations can be counted on fingers. Small number of books that deal with theories cover only the old concepts. The present work fills this gap particularly in the context of Russia, India and other Third World countries. This book covers all the prevalent worldviews and theories, for example, state-centric worldview, multi-centric worldview and global-centric worldview. It even goes beyond these and includes post-positivism, post-cold war theories, post-Communist Russian theories and Third World theories. The book can legitimately claim to be the most up-to-date, contemporary and comprehensive in content. Though the contributors belong to far off places yet they tried to maintain uniformity in the structure of different chapters.
