Synopsis
During 16th century A.D. King Jamyang Namgyal invited Lama Denma Kunga Trakpa is Ladakh, who later decided to establish a monastery according to Drigung Kargyu pa order. King agreed and gave his full assistance. Lama Denma selected land in Phyang village and with the help of King Jamyang Namgyal he started construction work. Initially he faced financial crises, so king bequeathed three regions viz., Shyang Sgamang and Lamayuru to him. Therefore, Lamayuru monastery which was the famous monastery in Lower Ladakh came under the direct control of Lama Denma. Consequently all the sub gonpas which were under Lamayuru monastery came under the supervision of Lama Denma. When the construction work of the monastery at Phyang completed, he named the monastery 'Gaon' which later popularly known Phyang. Thus, the Lamayuru, Atiche Skru-buchan, Tagmachik and Hemar Gonpas followed their monastic functions according to Drigung Kargyu pa order since 16th century A.D.
