Synopsis Terrorism-the use of violence to achieve sadistic and frustrated goals-is now a part of our everyday lives. We live with it, we are confronted by its manifestations on all of the media, and if we are unlucky we even experience it. And yet, despite our natural horror, it increases. The problem of terrorism is not going to disappear, and the issues that it raises will increasingly dominate our thinking about our society. Terrorism may not be politically motivated. Criminals have used it to obtain ransom and for other forms of private gain. Psychopaths have terrorised from motives they themselves may not fully understand.
