Synopsis
It is recognised that sewage is just not a pollutant but also a potential source of various nutrients as evidenced by the presence of valuable nutrients. Models of aquaculture for treatment of domestic sewage are available, the principle of all models are mainly dilution, oxidation and reduction of suspended solids along with recovery of nutrients in terms of biomass. Sewage fed aquaculture is a low-input and economically viable technology which can be widely practiced in urban areas. Dr. N.M. Chakrabarty is a fishery scientist working with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. He has 50 research publications to his credit in addition to the authorship of four books on Fish pathology, Prawn and prawn culture, Induced breeding and fish seed production and Biology of Indian Major Carps.
