Synopsis
The basic assumption of teacher-education is that an effective teacher must have the mastery of subject content as well as he should have the fun understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of teaching. Teaching is an art and it is by birth. There are very few such/teachers who cannot cater die need of nation. Another assumption is that teacher-behaviour is modifiable and effective teachers can be prepared by training. Using feedback devices can develop the desirable teaching skills and competency. This script has been prepared from this point of view. The field of language teaching is very broad and extensive. The teaching process and instructional procedure of English are different from other school, subject. The English teaching has two main areas: (1) Language teaching and (2) Literature Teaching. These areas are related and complementary to each other but their nature is quite different from each other. Language is science and literature is an art. The English language is an international. The two areas of English teaching have its own forms, which have their different objectives and devices of teaching The teaching objectives and devices are changed at different levels, i.e. primary to higher levels. Thus, English teaching has great variations. In view of great variations in English teaching, the subject contents have been organized into parts to facilitate the pupil-teachers and teacher-educators. This book consists of eighteen Chapters and each part deals the specific aspect of English teaching. The first part is eighteen Chapters and each part deals the specific aspect of English teaching. The first part is an introductory, which deals with the concept and nature and role of English language. Second chapter consists Aims and Principals of teaching and learning second language. Third and fourth chapters provide the teaching methods for English language to create awareness about teaching and learning. Other part deals with the 'English language skills' and lesson planning to develop the classroom teaching skills of pupil teachers for good teaching and learning of English language. It consists some chapters for language skills: ‘teaching pronunciation and vocabulary, Teaching writing and spellings and teaching of Reading. And one part provides the awareness and understanding of teaching. The Chapter Modern Trends reveals the methodology of teaching English literature, Teaching English Prose, Poetry, Story and Drama. The last part of the book presents the Evaluation Approach to English teaching and testing in one chapter: Concept of diagnosis and remediation, Remedial strategies of teaching English and Action Research as a remedial devices. The last part provides the understanding of the support systems of teaching English in three chapters: English textbooks, English teaching aids and multi media and instructional procedure in teaching English. A list of books and index of terms and concepts has also been given at the end of the last chapter of the book.
