Synopsis
Despite enormous problems on account of the divided land and the strategic geo-political developments in and around the Korean peninsula, the Republic of Korea (South Korea) has succeeded in attaining political stability and steady economic growth and is surging ahead with an amazing dynamism to tap the resources and opportunities presented by the ongoing globalization. At the same time, the people of Korea are striving to apprise the world about their history and culture, make the presence of their country felt everywhere, and seek a global rote commensurable with its overall progress. Korea in Search of a Global Role brings together twelve articles by Indian and Korean scholars and researchers which provide glimpses of Korea's economic, political, social, and cultural development at various levels and during different periods. The other papers deal with the social and cultural changes that have crept into the Korean society on account of the technological revolution and globalization; and the remaining ones provide glimpses of a few popular literary works of Korea. This diverse group of articles is extremely relevant as they help to understand not only the various facets of Korea's history and culture but also the growing India-Korea relationship in a global perspective.
