M. Lakshmipathi Raju

Prof. M. Lakshmipathi Raju, is one of the few pioneering social work educators in the country teaching social work students for more than four decades. Having taken four decades. Having taken M.A. (Social Work), M.A. (Sociology) and Ph.D. degrees, started his career during 1962 as lecturer and worked in various schools of Social Work as Founder Head, P.G. Deptt. of Social Work, Director and Principal of Post-graduate Studies at D.N.R. College during 1971-92’ U.G.C. Visiting Professor and Founder head, deptt. of Sociology and Social Work, Nagarjuna university, Guntur during 1992-93; Professor and head, deptt. of Social Work, S.P. Mahila University, Tirupati during 1994-99; guided successfully 12 Ph.D. scholars. Being a state award winner of the best teacher Award, he has published 18 text books, monographs and 35 papers in professional journals; presented papers in world conferences held in Japan, Austria, Swedan, Peru, Argentina and U.K. during 1986, 1988, 1990 and 1994 respectively.  Organized National Seminars in D.N.R. College, Bhimavaram, S.P. Mahila university, Tirupati and Acharya nagarjuna university, Guntur during 1985, 1995, 1998 and 2006; served as treasurer of Association of Schools of Social Work during 1983-85; visited Netherlands during November 1996 as U.G.C. visiting professor to deliver lectures in the schools of social work in Netherlands under Indo-Netherlands cultural exchange programme; organized refresher course for family counselors sponsored by central Social Welfare Board, New Delhi, Director of Nodal Agency for monitoring and evaluation and training of family counselors, funded by Central Social Welfare Board, New Delhi; Founder Director of family counseling centre started by the department and funded by the CSWB, New Delhi; president, Indian Society of professional Social Work for the year 1998-99. He has been heading the deptt. of Sociology, Social Work and HRM, Acharya Nagarjuna university, Guntur from 1999 to date. He has taken up additional assignments as Chief Warden, Ladies Hostel, during 2002-05; Coordinator for university –NGO Forum from 2006 to date; Academic Coordinator for the preparation of 25 Text Books for M.A. Sociology, Social Work and HRM for the centre for Distance Education. As Head of the deptt. he has been undertaking series of academic activities, i.e. consultancy for academic and research organizations, publication of books and papers, research guidance for M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars, besides extension and community outreach activities.
