Synopsis The fact is that about two third of brain development is nearly complete during the first two years of child's life and the rest in second two years. Hence there is need for utmost care of the child during this period. This book provides an extensive and in-depth analysis of dimensions of early childhood care and education in simple language. The book will not only be useful for students undergoing teacher training programmes but also for parents and individuals engaged in child care and the education. A perusal of the existing literature on Early Childhood Care and Education would reveal that there is a paucity of standard books on the subject. This publication aims at bridging the gap. This book is organized in 4 Units with 24 Chapters and 3 Appendices. Unit I entitled 'Introduction to early Childhood Care and Education' includes 10 chapters dealing with meaning, nature, significance and objectives of ECCE. It examines issues relating to ECCE in the light of observations and recommendations of Committees and Commissions. Unit II captioned 'Curriculum Transaction' incorporates 8 chapters dealing with various types of play and activities having bearing ion the development of different types of skills and attitudes relevant to this stage. Unit III 'Prominent Promoters of ECCE/Pre-Primary or Pre-school Educators' is devoted to the inspiring and stimulating thoughts of great educators The material in the book is derived from research studies on ECCE, observations and recommendations of National and International Committees and Commissions and other policy statements. The book is primarily designed as a textbook for students of education studying in different universities. However, it should be useful to different categories of personnel engaged in the field of child-care and education.
