Delivery Services Among the Tribal Communities of Bengal & Orissa
Synopsis
The primary health care infrastructure provides the first level of contact between the population and health care providers and forms the common pathway for implementation of all the health and family welfare programmes. It provides integrated promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services to the population close to their hearth and home. Majority of the health care needs of the tribal population is taken care of either by the trained health personnel at the primary health care level or by their own traditional indigenous health practitioners at village level. Those requiring specialized care are referred to secondary and tertiary sector. The tribal population is not a homogeneous one. There are wide variations with regard to education and health status, access and utilization of health services among the tribal population. In view of the above the present book is the outcome of author’s independent research work where he critically analysed the impact of existing health facilities of tribal communities. The study has been conducted in the State of Orissa and West Bengal. The observation which was made by the author during the field enquiry at micro level has been refrected too in this book. Finally, the present book provides an empirical account by taking a present stock of existing health facilities available at grass root level and also offered suggestions expressed by the users as well as providers to make the health services to the more effective and attractive.
