Lalitasahasranamastotram: Text with Jayamangala Commentary of Bhattanarayana
Lalitasahasranamastotrais one of the most popular among the thousand-epithet panegyrics of deities in Sanskrit literature. The descriptive epithets of the Devi incorporates Vedanta and Tantra doctrines which are revealed through lucid and elegant compounds. The epithets have brought about the excellences and extra-ordinary feats of the Devi vividly. Many expressions are terse and Tantric in nature. They were explained by many commentators who were well acquainted with the Tantra concepts. Among them Bhatta narayana was next only to Bhaskara raya, the Author of the commentary "Saubhagya Bhaskara". He has explained the epithets briefly, quoting profusely from Hayagriva, Ksemaraja and many authors of books, based on saiva and Tantra doctrines. His style is simple and charming and has not engaged himself in disputation. This commentary was first printed in Telugu characters. This is now printed in devanagari characters for the sake of deva nagari knowing scholars and devotees. The Goddess as universal Mother and as the slayer of several demons has been adored and revered by a large number of devotees. This commentary will, I am sure, be of immense help to the devotees for their right comprehension of the Mantrasastra and Tantra Sastra principles.
