Sting Operation by Media
Synopsis
In India the radio and T.V. networks are entirely under the control of the central government while the press is almost government while the press is almost entirely in private hands. Radio and T.V. are under government control because they are seen as agencies of mass education. However, there is substantial support in favour of auto-nomy for T.V. and a demand that provincial governments be given greater say in deciding programmes for radio and T.V. According to authoritarian theory the mass media though not under the direct control of the state and the ruling classes must do their bidding. The press and other media are expected to respect authority to be always subordinate to established power and authority to be always subordinate to established power and authority and therefore should avoid offending the majority or dominant moral political and economic values. The press shall not intrude upon or invade the privacy of an individual unless outweighed by genuine overriding public interest not being a prurient or morbid curiosity.
