Synopsis Swami Vivekananda stands out as an undisputed champion of India's spiritual message to the world. He had a fascinating personality which spread a graceful halo around it. Disciple of Ramakrishna Paramhansa, he was well acquainted with the ancient basis of our approach to life and our achievements, and he explained these to the people in a language which was easily understood by them. He was steeped in lore and learning of India but he did not confine himself to India alone. It was because of this that his voice was listened to with attention in other lands as well. This patriot monk had become a national pride as one who had successfully stood up to the west and made it acknowledge him as the master. Though he lived a short span of life (1863-1902) he has left a permanent impression on our minds, never to be obliterated in the ceaseless flow of time. Truly has Swami Vivekananda said that 'Vivekananda is a unique phenomena of our time'.
