Synopsis
Sign Linguistics and Language Education for the Deaf is a pioneering endeavour of the research conducted by the author in her partial fulfillment of the requirements for the procurement of the Degree of Master of Philosophy in Linguistics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, (Centre of Linguistics and English, School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies) with a view to explore the field of deafness and its impact on deaf education. It gives a glance into the problems and prospects of special educators in deaf education. The book provides an introduction to the field of sign linguistics a new field that studies the grammatical aspects of sign languages. It also gives a description of the various approaches adopted by the educational institutions. A brief phonological description of Shillong sign language is also presented. This research is expected to create an interest for the special educators, teacher educators, parents of the deaf students and for those dealing with inclusive education.
