Synopsis Under the series Erotics in Kalidasa will be presented the first ever study of the seven world-famous works of Dipasikha-Kalidasa with reference to Erotics in ten volumes. The present is the fourth volume entitled 'Sixty-Four Arts in Sanskrit Literature and Dramas of Kalidasa'. This volume comprises the novel and the first ever study of the Sixty-four arts in the history of literary criticism and critical works in India and abroad accomplished with reference to Sanskrit Literature and dramas of Kalidasa. This study is divided into two stabakas. The first stabaka divided into three puspas, deals with the Sastric and technical analysis of the sixty-four arts as propounded by Sage Vatsyayana in his Kamasutra. These arts are considered as the angavidyas or angabhutakalas of kama, the art of enjoying love. The detailed study of these kalas has been presented in sixty-four heads citing illustrations from prominent works of Sanskrit Literature. The second stabaka comprises three puspas which present the first ever study of the sixty-four arts as found in the dramas of Kalidasa. These three puspas present the detailed analysis of 43 arts in Malavikagnimitra, 47 arts in Vikramorvasiya and 47 arts in Abhijnanasakuntala, citing numerous beautiful references. In the end is appended a detailed Bibliography. This voluminous volume is presented to a serious connoisseur of literature and the arts, himself an adept musician and musicologist Prof. Jagdish Sahai Kulshreshtha on his Eighty-Eighth Birthday.
