Dictionary of History
Synopsis
The word "History" has been derived from the Greek word "Historia" which means "what has actually happened in the past". Thus history is just "man -his story". History is an important subject because it tells us about the human civilisation of the past days. In the words of a famous historian, history is, "what men have done and said and above all what they have thought." According to Johnson, "History has always been what human beings thought about the past and in this sense it has always been of creation of the past."
