Synopsis Joint Forest Management (JFM) concept was derived out of the concerns that there should be a suitable forest policy where communities can playa vital role in the forest management. Addressing the equity concerns, especially those concerned with women forest dependents is an important objective of JFM.  In the above context, this study focuses on the role of the women in forestry/JFM, impact of JFM on forests in general and the status of women in particular in two different settings of Andhra Pradesh. This study brought out some very interesting issues related to the subject along with analyzed findings. The authors hope that this book would be useful to the foresters and researchers working in the area of natural resources management sector.

About the author

C. Sudhakar

Prof. C. Sudhakar obtained his M.Sc. (1981) and Ph.D. (1991) from Sri Krishnadevaraya University. He joined the Department of Botany in 1987 as Assistant Professor and is currently Professor in the Department of Biotechnology. He was a UGC visiting fellow (ICRISAT, 1992), DBT, National Associate (Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore 1993-94, Stress protein characterization) and Commonwealth Academic Staff Post Doctoral Fellow (University of Sussex, UK, 1998-99, ATLS of rice salt tolerance), INSA-Royal Society Fellow (University of Sussex, UK 2001-02, Rice root proteomics) and DBT Overseas Associateship awardee (University of California, Riverside, 2005, Barley and cowpea genomics). He has been awarded DST-DAAD PPP 2002-05 to work on Barley proteomics, under which he and three of his students visited Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plants Research, Gatersleben, Germany twice in a year. He is Principal Investigator of four major research projects funded by APNLBT, DST, CSIR and UGC totaling nearly a crore of rupees. Under his guidance five students obtained their Ph.D. degree. He has published more than 40 papers in National and International journals.
