The book Federalism : Problems and Prospects: India and Abroad by Professor Kalyan Kumar Sarkar, is mainly a collection of research oriented articles on one of the most popular forms of Government, Federalism by name and the typical problems that the government often faces, namely separatism, catchy debate on centre-state relations, attacks on federation, betrayal to federation and the very question of federal solidarity and national integration. Though the focus in the book is primarily on the scenario of the Indian Federal Polity, still the focus has been make so general that it has achieved common approach. This is why the book enlightens the problems and prospects of Federalism in general, encompassing the entire gamut of federal politics of the world as such. The book has two aspects of its own: Theoretical and practical. It, in its theoretical aspect, gives a descriptive and detailed account of the nature of Federalism and its very problems and prospects. In its practical aspect, the book, on the other hand, deals with some complicated and critical crises that the federal states of the Globe suffer and even also suffered a lot, namely separatism in Quebec in Canada and that in Punjab in India, terrorizing threats to Federalism, highly catchy question of Centre-State Relations, thorny issue of National Integration (Specially in India) and so on. The book, thus, in its both the aspects, seeks to raise the basic issues of Federalism and its problems and prospects and thereby draws special attention of the readers to this popular form of government as such.
