Synopsis The quantum of knowledge in the field of forestry and wildlife has grown considerably over the past few decades. With this, the importance of these subjects in the lives of human beings and in environmental conservation has attained a vital position. Today, ecological security and environmental goods and services being provided by forest ecosystems are essential for sustenance of life on earth. Forestry and wildlife is being taught in many universities at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels and also in agricultural universities. Training in these fields is being imported at institutions like the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun; Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun; State Forest Service Colleges; Rangers Colleges and training institutions of state forest departments. An integrated syllabus is being covered which varies in nature and content. This book, forming part of the two volume set, covers chapters on geology and rocks, forest soils, forest types of India, general silviculture, seed production, plantation silviculture, silvicultural systems, forest management, forest products, forest based industries and forest products trade, social and community forestry, agroforestry, urban and recreational forestry, forest law, forest policy. During the writing of this book, the author has referred to his own books written earlier and also those of others. The aim has been to provide an integrated textbook on various aspects of forestry and wildlife management.
