Synopsis
This book is meant for UG and PG students in the discipline of Plant Pathology. Diseases of all important field crops namely wheat, paddy, maize, millets, pulses, oilseeds, sugarcane, cotton and tobacco have been covered in detail. The book has been divided into four parts. The major attention has been given to fungal diseases, which are responsible for causing tremendous losses at the global level. All diseases caused by fungi, bacteria, viruses and phytoplasma have been covered. In each disease, historical background has been illustrated in detail followed by symptoms, causal agent, disease cycle, epidemiology and control measures. The disease cycle is given in words and line diagram of fungal structures have been clearly drawn. Recent literature on all these aspects has been quoted. Photographs depicting symptoms have also been given. The chapters have been contributed by eminent scientists/teachers working in different agricultural universities for a long time. They have enriched the book by their lifetime experience. One part of the book deals with ‘Use of Biotechnology in Plant Disease Control’. The book will be very useful for teachers, students and researchers in the discipline of crop diseases.
