The Message of Gurbani
Synopsis
This book is the English version of the complete preamble to the Sikh scripture. Japji mentions the basics of the Sikh theology and the rest of the hymns in the scripture are considered to be detailed explanations of this theology. The Sikh scripture was first compiled and installed at the Harimandar Sahib (now popularly known as Golden Temple) in 1604 by the fifth Nanak, Guru Arjan Dev. Though primarily written to meet the needs of the youth, all Sikhs will find it very useful. Every Sikh is required to recite Japji in the morning, Rehras in the evening and Sohila at bedtime. This English version gives the message of the three hymns in simple, understandable language. Anand Sahib is recited at the end of every Sikh function before offering the closing prayer, Ardas. This hymn, therefore, has also been included. Most common questions asked are about God. A special article, “Who is God?†Has been added to answer these questions from Gurbani’s point of view.
