Synopsis This volume brings together Bangla stories from Bangladesh and West Bengal in a unique attempt to see how Partition has shaped the narratives of the two regions that share a common language, culture and heritage. Many of these stories have been translated for the fist time into English and carry the evocation, ironic tone that is a special flavor of partition stories from the East. Differing in many ways from the stories in Urdu and Hindi, these haunting narratives question the finality and resolution of the Partition, the insufficiency of memories and the instability of borders. As they unfold a tragic tale of a loss of a world, we one again come to see how every time narratives of the Partition are re-told, they point towards our changing values, our present and our future.
