Role of State Bank of India in Employment Generation
Synopsis
Unemployment, poverty and income disparities are the main macro economic ailments of any economy and all other problems sprout up from the problem of unemployment. If unemployment is solved, all other hazards, economic, social and political evils will be solved automatically. Unemployment problem has been important in all times and at all placed, for men and women of all mature groups. Since, this problem is so widespread and important, Govt., public and institutions make all efforts to handle it. Efforts may be in the field of agriculture, industry, infrastructure, education, health or housing. Efforts may be through different Govt. policies, may be monetary investment policy or any other micro and/or macro-economic policies. Govt. has launched many employment schemes during the different Five Year Plans since 1951 and this book marks a critical lion's eye evaluation of these schemes, their success and failures and suggests better ways out. The specific objectives of this study are to assess the working and role of various employment schemes of income and employment generation, to sort out their achievements, short comings and to evolve strategy for effective and faster promotion of them. The work covers all employment schemes launched by the Govt. of India (1988-95) and supported by the State Bank of India. A case study of Ujjain tehsil has been done for the existing 6 urban and 2 rural branches of SBI. Secondary data has been collected from these 8 branches for their progress and problems, Primary data has been collected from the 403 beneficiaries of these 8 SBI branches. The study will be useful to Government, planners, bankers, Non Government Organizations, teachers, students and public in solving the problem of unemployment.
