Unleashing Rural Entrepreneurship
Synopsis
More than 25 crore young people between the age group of 18 and 35, consisting of poorly educated youth, women, school and college drop-outs are unemployed in India, out of whom almost 60% live in villages. They are the subject matter of this book. Importance of unleashing rural entrepreneurship in nation building is the triggering point for preparation of this road map. In a labour abundant, capital scarce economy like India, there is a limitation to the government in providing employment to all. Hence, people will have to come forward to harness avenues of self-employment i.e. to engage themselves in productive activities by starting their own enterprises for employment and livelihood. There is ample pragmatism as well as logic to prove that setting up of rural entrepreneurship development institutes in different parts of the country by banks and financial institutions is technically feasible, economically viable, sustainable and, in fact, a win-win scenario for both the banks and unemployed rural youths. This book addresses an issue that has high priority on the national agenda and will be a valuable source of reference on the subject for all those evincing interest in ameliorating the lot of the unemployed.
