Synopsis Women's empowerment has reached great heights. Women are being empowered in various areas, in different ways, across societies. They are empowered politically, economically and socially. Added to this, the globalized world has opened new opportunities for them. Today's women have successfully made their mark in diverse fields. Education and awareness are the basic factors leading women to accept different careers along with the inherent challenges. Women have displayed their skills and intellectual capital in areas like information technology, decision making, political participation and governance. New challenges for women's empowerment and gender equality have emerged. Nevertheless, the achievements made by them are commendable. Empowerment and gender as an approach to development have become increasingly dominant across societies. The governments of various countries are increasingly showing commitment to promote gender equality and empowerment of women as effective ways to eradicate poverty, employment, diseases, stimulating sustainable development and so on. This book comprises two sections namely, "Empowerment of Women: Perspectives" and "Country Experiences". The first section projects various views with regard to women's empowerment and the second section has a specific focus on empowerment with respect to examining experiences of some countries. Through this book we aim at understanding women's empowerment in diverse ways such as their access to information, social empowerment through ICT, economic empowerment, political empowerment and so forth. This venture of women assures that a holistic development/progress of women helps building their selves, thus, giving wider implications to their lives.
