Synopsis This volume in based on empirical study carried out to understand the determinants of truckers vulnerability to HIV and develop a perspective to do social work practice with them. The volume is divided in eight-chapters. Chapter one describes the HIV infection as a public health challenge. Chapter two explore the epidemiology of the infection at global, regional level. Chapter eight discuss the perspective of social work practice with trucker in order to emotionate their conditions which many lead to reduction of HIV. This book is provides a holistic approach of looking at the problem of HIV in the country. It provides a frame work to overcome the problem. Akash Gulalia

Akash Gulalia obtained Masters and Doctoral degrees in Social Work from University of Delhi. He is presently working as Professor in Department of Social Work, BPS Women University. He is actively involved in building the department and the university in the capacity of Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences. He is an imminent scholar and practitioner having worked for over twenty year at University of Delhi, UNDP, NACO, NHAI, DFID and other bilateral agencies. He has worked extensively on HIV prevention, drug abuse and other social problems. He has contributed in making of a documentary on life of truck drivers in India titled Highway in my Veins shown on Discovery Channel. Presently he is working on HIV/TB co-infection studies and is part of EUCONET a prestigious consortium established by European Union to draw a road map and research priorities. He has written extensively in national and international journals.
