Sino-Indian Equation in the Changing World Scenario
Synopsis
Sino-Indian relations continue to influence the world politics. With the collapse of Soviet Union, the realisation has dawned on the leaders of both the countries (in case of India irrespective of party affiliations) that irritants notwithstanding, their relationship must be kept tension-free as far as possible. With this end in view, they have taken steps to mutual contacts and understanding. Summit level diplomacy between the two countries resumed with the visit of the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to China in 1988. Author has traced various summit meetings from 1988 onwards till 2005 and analyzed its outcome. The author has made an attempt to analyze the factors that bring the two Asian giants close to each other despite mutual suspicion and negative trends in their ties. The leaders of both the countries maintain regular contacts with the Russian leaders and there has been even talk of an alliance comprising the three countries, and in spite of denials by the leaders of India and China, the fact remains that they have co-ordinated their positions along with Russia at the U.N. China, and India, along with a few other developing countries. This book will help the reader and students of international relations and interested readers as well as specialists.
