Synopsis
The book aims at reviewing the Tribal Development Programme, with a view to identify the factors responsibly for their failure or limited success. The study is carried out to find out the income change of tribals, if any, due to the impact of special tribal development programmes. The present study has been divided into nine chapters. The first chapter 'Tribal Societies' deals with the concept and Tribes of India, Tribes of Rajasthan and socio-economic characteristics of Southern Rajasthan. The second chapter 'Tribal Development' explains the concept of tribal development. It includes past efforts of tribal development. It also includes a brief description of new challenges of tribal development. The third chapter 'Tribal Administrative Set Up' explains state level set up of Tribal Research Institute, Udaipur, Rajasthan Tribal Area Development, Co-operative Federation Limited and Sahariya Development. The fourth chapter 'Tribal Development Programme' is sponsored by the state. It includes various development programmes. The fifth chapter 'Development Programmes' sponsored by the central, explains Development Programme in TSP area, SCA Programme, Ninth Five Year Plan (1997-2002) and new programmes proposed. The sixth chapter 'Financial Assistance' includes funds from state, Central Govt. The seventh chapter 'Tribal Planning' monitoring and evaluation explains planning in block I.R.D.P. and state levels. The eighth chapter 'Research Methodology' deals with the review of work already done on the subject importance and objectives of study, hypothesis framing testing, methods, of data collection and village profile. In the last summarized ninth chapter the whole study is concluded. The present study has both academic and practical significance. It helps the academicians and researchers to develop deeper and new insights into the overall performance of tribal development.
