Kala-azar in Ayurveda is a valuable contribution for the better understanding of this disease from Ayurveda perspective. The classic manifestations of advanced disease include prolonged fever; cachexia (malnutrition being both a risk factor for and a sequela of visceral leishmaniasis); hepatosplenomegaly; anemia; leukopenia; thrombocytopenia, sometimes associated with bleeding; hypergammaglobulinemia; and hypoalbuminemia., which could from the principal denominator of identifying the modern clinical correlate of Kala-azar vis-a vis plihodar, Raktaja Krimi and Visamajvara. It is one of the potentially important resources for the delivery of health care in many ways like protection of health in health individual, prevention of disease and cure of the disease.
