Synopsis
The Indian diaspora has developed institutions, orientations, and patterns of living specific tot he institutional structures and socio-political contexts of different hostlands. ?These patterns have been marked by the influences of the hostland culture as well as by relations with the homeland. This book examines different aspects of the Indian diaspora. Studying the transnational nature of the middle class Indian immigrants, it emphasises that they have the advantages of skills, cultural rootedness, mobility and ethics of hard work which defines their diasporic identity. Additionally, it analyses cultural identity versus national identity and gender issues amongst the diaspora.
