This book is a critical assessment of the history of forestry and forest administration in the Nizam's Dominions or the Hyderabad State from 1867 to 1948. It seeks to document and analyse the emergence of state forest management in the Hyderabad State. In addition, it examines the process of enactment of Forest Acts and policies, commercial exploitation of forest resources and the popular response to the newly set up forest administration and management. The author traces the long-term relationship between the forest, the state and the people of the Hyderabad State against the backdrop of British colonialism.
