There are biographies of Dr. Mahendralal Sircar by Sarat Chandra Ghosh in English and Samarendra Nath Sen in Bengali but there was no thematic and analytical assessment of Mahendralal in print. This book should fill this gap.

About the author

Chittrabrata Palit

Dr. Chittabrata Palit is a Professor of History at Jadavpur University. A noted historian and an authority on 19th century Bengal, he is of late engaged in writing a social history of science in Bengal. Apart from many papers on the subject, he has already edited, 'Science, Technology, Medicine and Environment in India. Historical Perspectives' (1998) and authored 'Mahendralal Sircar and National Science' (2000).
