Synopsis  Biochemistry is the study of chemical reactions taking place in living organisms, notably reactions of degradation of food substances which provide the energy required by organisms, and transformation of biosynthesis reactions leading to the formation of compounds needed by the cells. In recent years, biochemistry has made gigantic strides and the results of major discoveries largely surpassed the expectations of specialists.

Thus there was a progressive evolution of biology to biochemistry and then to molecular biology, genetic engineering and biotechnology.

Realising the manifold importance of its knowledge, biochemistry taught as an important discipline to undergraduate and post graduate students.

This text book on introduction to plant biochemistry has been prepared to provide the students adequate but concise matter pertaining to these aspects. The subject matter has been organised into eleven chapters.
