Synopsis India is a largest consumer of the spices and also predominant country in spice production in the world. Lack of high yielding varieties, improper nutrient management and incidence of many diseases at various stages of crop growth, are the principle constraints to achieve high productivity of these crops. Yet crop losses due to diseases incited by fungi, bacteria, viruses and phytoplasmas, plays a major role in the productivity of spice crops.

Integrated disease management strategies involving the use of most effective methods needs to be implemented for efficient management of diseases in these valuable crops. There is an urgent need for undertaking the detail studies in the development in the etiology, epidemiology and management of controlling the various diseases affecting spice crops and to minimize the loss in the field, in transit and and in storage. About the authors

B.B.S. Kapoor

Dr. B.B.S. Kapoor did his M.Sc. in Botany in 1977 and Ph.D. in 1992 from University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. He joined college education in 1977 as a lecturer and at present, he is working as a Associate Professor in P.G. Department of Botany, Govt. Dungar College, Bikaner. He is actively engated in research especially on Ecology of Rajasthan Desert and Medicinjal plants of this region. At present he is working as Principal Investigator in a major research project on Medicinal Plants of Rajasthan Desert sponsored by Medicinal Plants Board, New Delhi. He has published a number of research papers and articles in reputed scientific journals, magazines & books, conducted several research projects and has been supervising M.Phil and Ph.D. scholars. He has nine books to his credit. He is environmental thinker, educator & campaigner and is often invited by schools, Govt. and non-govt. institutions and organizations to deliver lectures on burning environmental issues. He is on the panel of All India Radio, Bikaner as an expert on environment. He has participated in a number of national and international seminars, conferences & workshops. He has honoured with several awards in the field of popularization of science and research on medicinal plants. At present, a series of publications by him on cultivation of medicinal plants and their utility in â€œRajasthan Patrikaâ€, Satat Vartaâ€, â€œKrishi Mangalâ€ and â€œIsheer Samachar Patrikaâ€ are very popular.

B.S. Rathore

Prof. B.S. Rathore has 39 years of experience in engineering, technical teaching and training and promotion of entrepreneurship. He has recently retired as professor and head of EDIC at National Institute of Technical Teacher's Training and Research, Chandigarh. He was instrumental in integrating Entrepreneurship Development related inputs in course curricula at vocational, technician and engineering degree level in the country. He has authored several books on Entrepreneurship, Applied Mechanics, TQM and Industry-Institute Interaction. Other areas of interest of Prof. Rathore are Intellectual Property Rights, Industry-Institute Partnership. Cooperative Education Programmes and Distance Education through on line mode.
